the best laid plans

When I started this here thingie I originally envisioned it as an extension of my work in the darkroom and in the field doing black and white photography.

Two problems quickly reared their ugly heads….

1. I’m terrible at scanning and Photoshopping black and white photographs. I have no idea why they turn out too dark or not contrasty enough. I think it has something to do with the characteristic curves of a scanner being different than black and white film but I have no idea how to correct for that… so you aint going to see too much of my work here

2. One night late February, during a cold snap, I turned on the water in my darkroom and before I could grab a bucket and start bailing there was an inch of water on the floor. It seems the boy genius plumber who installed the sink jammed the temperature control valve in the wrong way and in the cold the brass plating snapped off. So I’m waiting for a package from Calumet with the part I need to get back up and running.

So in the meantime I’ve shoot a few rolls of family pictures and outdoor stuff and it’s all stacking up on my desk waiting for a Rodinal bath. And this blog thingie has become more of an ‘about me and my life’ sort of thing. Not a bad development.

So if anyone came here expecting more pictures and less daddy, I apologize and promise there will be more exciting adventures in the darkroom coming soon.
