Let’s Wiggle!

I love The Wiggles.

They have a certain goofy charm. Unlike most American children’s television they don’t try to shove phony social and politically correct messages down our throat. And maybe it’s just me but the music ain’t half bad.

So the other day we were visiting our friends Dave and Lisa way up in Buttsville, CT who have two kids about the age of ours. After a couple of hours of eating and running around like maniacs the kids were ready for a little vegitation time in front of the TV and their son L wanted to watch the Wiggle’s latest magnus opus Wiggles Bay.

I was pretty jazzed to see that despite their recent absorption into the Disney Evil Empire(tm) they hadn’t lost any of their sillyness. Quite the contrary, age seems to have only made them goofier (like someone we know?).

So a few silly musical numbers go by - lots of dancing on the beach with Dorothy the Dinosaur and Capt. Feathersword the Friendly Pirate and it’s clear the kids are losing interest and most of them wander off to the playroom leaving the four of us… you guessed it … all alone watching The Wiggles. For about a minute it crossed my mind that the ALCS was on. For about a minute. Then the thought passed.

Today there’s an eight hour Wiggles marathon on Disney TV. All new episodes! Guess where I’ll be?

Heh… maybe it’s just that whenever I watch the Wiggles I think about how much fun it would be to be watching it while I was stoned.

    You’re one weird puppy! LOL

I’m the forums over at Wil Wheaton’s site and the parenting forum had this extended thread of conversation that started when the poster said something to the effect of “It’s sad when you start having Wiggles dreams.” Talk about getting folks going. We had “Name That Tune” competing with “Where are Jeff’s Eyebrows” and “What Exactly the Hell Does Anthony Do Anyway?”

Speaking of which, one of the participants in the forum, who’s actually from Aus said that Anthony was voted most eligible bachelor in Australia by some group. Dunno who. A parental organization would be a bit unseemly for such an award, but those Aussies do have their own take on things. :D

I looked, but it looks like the thread aged out.

I have to say this is one of my favourite “community sites.” Wil’s done a great job of setting up a variety of forums and the conversation is mainly civil.

eh.. the site doesn’t seem to want to register me. Must be all the nasty thinks I said about Less Crusher.

I’m not a huge fan of the Wiggles, but they make my girl laugh and dance. Well, the older ones did. The new episodes bore her, so she’s been watching more Bear and Clifford, and I just play some music for her.

I didn’t mind the guys…but Captain needs to walk the plank. He’s almost as annoying as Barney.

Do you like the new format? I have to admit that I prefer last season’s shows.

I broke down and bought a cassette tape for the car…I figured what the heck, I’m usually singing Wiggles songs to my daughter anyway. She’s thrilled to hear them and not me, btw.
