Daddy, make a picture

We have a formerly lovely white carpet - now dingy and gray and stained with dog pee and various other fluids - that runs through our living room and dining room. In theory (note I say in theory) there’s hard wood underneath and all we have to do is have the carpet pulled up and the wood sanded and stained and hey presto… hard wood floors.

Not so simple bubba.

Today we had the carpet removed and the big burly men were supposed to come back tomorrow to start the sanding, staining and coating. We came home to a frantic message on our answering machine. Turns out the floor is not really wood but a laminate and it wasn’t properly glued down to the slab when the house was built and the impact of three years of Dillon the Amazing Incontinent Westie has rotted through and …. we have to have the whole thing pulled up and replaced for three times the original estimate.

And to top it all off, I’m sitting here in the den, which is crammed full of all of the furniture that used to live in our living room and dining room… and our three year old Sony Wega Trinitron humongo superduper picture TV has just died. So I can’t watch the World Series.

Which is just as well because if I have to watch Aaron Boone flub one more routine infield play I’m seriously gonna put a world of hurt on someone.

Anyhow.. since the original plan was for three days of coating and staining with various ugly chemicals, we’ve made plans to get out of town through the weekend.

And I should add that the ‘business’ hotel we’re staying at which was renovated in 2001 with all the amenities that today’s traveling business person needs… doesn’t have LAN or 802.11b Internet access anywhere.

So I might be a bit out of touch until Monday.

Hopefully we’ll have a new floor and I’ll be happier.
