I’m thinking about working on this design… honest
I’m writing this directly connected to the cable modem. No router, hub or Airport base station.
What I’ve figured out is that the router is telling the universe that it’s a DNS server. And that’s not good. I discovered this when I noticed that each time I rebooted the Airport base it took the router’s IP address as the DNS server.
Now, directly plugged into the Matrix, things are zipping along quite nicely but of course we can’t continue this way, now can we?
So basically, unless I can cure the router’s woes, we need a new router….
grrrrr
Broadband routers are pretty cheap these days, or at least better then they use to be. I would check out www.tigerdirect.com, they have good prices but watch the huge shipping charges. Swapping things around is usally the easiest way to test things though. I’m assuming you have gone through all of the menus in your router setup and checked all the values with your ISP though. A misconfiguation could cause your problems too. However things can and do fail. By connecting directly to the modem it seems you have ruled out having a faulty modem. One last thought is to check out www.pricewatch.com or the likes for a good deal. Best of luck!
