The only damage is that which is done to the students of Kansas, and elsewhere, as well as the fact that the rest of the nation will have to deal with the human results of the dumbed down standards of people who want us to return to the blissful ignorance of pre-Enlightenment thought, when the flock could be so easily, unquestioningly led.

Have you been to Kansas? It’s so flat the the enlightened blow away during the first spring storm.

    Ahem.

Having been here for going on 14 years, I have to say, it’s gotten worse in the last 3 or 4 years. There’s been this ongoing tug-of-war on the state board of ed between the reasonable folk and those “with god on their side.” Sadly, it looks like the righteous are holding sway, at least for the time being. I heard how the reps of the science community are boycotting the hearings and how the chair of the meeting basically said he agreed with what the “intelligent design” folk were saying. Sad time to be an academic here. Anywhere, really, but here especially.

If you want to read the KC Star article he links to, some registration info was created by the nice folk over at KC’s alternative weekly

Bob, I live “next door”, as it were in the St. Louis area. I have a feeling that we’re not too far from moving toward intellegent design. With our current regime, well, it wouldn’t be surprising.

I think what irritates me is that, despite the evidence they hammer the “Theory” aspect. It’s looking for proof versus The Truth(R).

But, as Richard Feynman said, “In physics the truth is rarely perfectly clear, and that is certainly universllay the case in human affairs. Hence, what is not surrounded by uncertainty cannot be the truth.”
