Playing with fire

I’ve spent a good chunk of the weekend in a still-ongoing project to repair some plumbing in my darkroom.

Wielding a propane torch can be fun.

Welding copper pipes, on the other hand, is not as easy as it sounds.

I have a new-found respect for plumbers.

I have twice tried to do some very basic plumbing, and both times I’ve ended up with a pipe with a -lot- of duct tape wrapped around it. I guess I’m just hoping that the sheer mass of tape will intimidate the water into staying in the pipe.

We had a plumber in only last week. I was thoroughly impressed - the fellow made it look so eeeeeasy. Me, I’m impressed that you played with that torch - they intimidate me to bits. I’d likely go the complete duct tape route. Duct tape and buckets.

I remember learning to wield an oxy-acetylene rig in high school, and yeah, it took a good bit of practice to get the beads right. I never did much with copper tubing, but copper seems like it would be a finicky metal to work with.

Wow, I haven’t thought about welding in a long time. I flirted with getting into bicycle frame building, way back when. Hm. I might have a post topic here. :P

Wait, Sue lets you play with fire and chemicals? I’m not even allowed to use a spoon without permission from my wife and a signed doctor’s note.

Plumbers have my utmost respect. I hear that occassionally plumbing has a language of its own.

    Have a nice weekend.
