As for the dishwasher thing…I don’t do that but when I was putting dishes into a dishwasher some years ago at my mother-in-laws, I heard her say (she’s Portuguese) to my wife, in a distainful way — “Don’t the English wash the plates before putting them in the dishwasher, then?”.
Shades of my own childhood.
Yeah, and you better make sure to wash those dishes before you put them in the -dish- -washer-.

since my wife was away twice this summer, the second time was a “this house is a disaster area” moment…
cleaning crew was ordered immediately, followed by two days of the boys “preparing” for said cleaning crew to arrive :-p
