Sell the F5 and buy… a D70… or a 8×10?

I’ve spent a good chunk of the weekend in a still-ongoing project to repair some plumbing in my darkroom.
Wielding a propane torch can be fun.
Welding copper pipes, on the other hand, is not as easy as it sounds.
I have a new-found respect for plumbers.

Not falling yet.
Almost midnight and no rain. They promised us torrential rain. Where’s my damn rain?
Anyhow… prints are washing and I’m watching Graham until it’s time for toning.
Until then.. where’s my rain??
Update (five minutes later): Hello Charley! It’s pouring!

The plumbing seems to be getting the best of me lately.
We have well water… which means there’s an electrical pump in our garage where the water comes in - and then goes into the house and does its watery stuff.
Last Winter, if you were all paying attention, you might remember that the pump froze […]

Throwing down the photo geek gauntlet here…. A characteristic curve for 100TMax, exposed at 64 and developed in Rodinal 1:50 for eight minutes. Aggitation for sixty seconds and then for ten seconds every minute.
Not much of a toe or shoulder. But nice even tonal gradiation throughout. You can probably get detail way into Zones […]

Speaking of getting back into the darkroom.
You wouldn’t know it if you weren’t a complete photo-geek like me, but there’s a digital vs. film scism going on in the community of photogeeks. I come down on the side of the film freaks.
The arguement from the digital side comes down to the inevitable march of […]

ARGH!

Well.. the latest is a leak in the hot water pipe going into my darkroom. A leak that unfortunately is inside of a wall.
The plumber reassures me that if I cut away at the wall where the leak is behind (it’s in the garage) and expose the pipe, he can just come in and fix […]

I thought I’d drag down the scanner and scan some of my black and white prints. This one I took late last year at the Croton Dam in Croton-On-Hudson. This is a detail from a larger picture of the rock wall of the gorge.
Technical details if anyone is interested… shot on Kodak Tri-X Pro, […]

Well here’s my little bit of heaven. When I get a chance to get in there.

This is the dry side, where all the printing gets done. The enlarger is a Saunders VC6700 (for those in ‘the know’). I built the table myself.

Here’s the wet side - where the chemical stuff is done. I […]

I now have five rolls of film - three 120 and two 35mm - all ready to for contact sheets and some printing. The anticipation is killing me. Hopefully I’ll get some time this weekend and Sue might have an extra Mother’s Day gift or three…
