…well, 13 if you count the talent*
In June of 1976, the Sex Pistols played their first concert in Manchester.
41 people showed up.
Among the crowd were Tony Wilson and Martin Hannett as well as future members of Joy Divison/New Order, Buzzcocks, The Smiths and Simply Red.
So when folks start arguing over who’s on the A-list or who made the top 500 or how that was even determined, don’t forget that some of most important – or at least most interesting – music of the past three decades came from 41 (well 45 if you count the talent) people who happened to be in the same place at the same time while all wondering what the hell was going on onstage.
And the next time you are creating a media list and thinking about who to target, don’t forget that the 41 people who read the blog you’re inclined to ignore because it only gets 41 readers – must might be the most important 41 people your client needs to reach.
* – tell me the movie that line is from and I’ll buy you a drink
