Dave Taylor still thinks PR is dead.
As an aside, Dave didn’t seem to mind yours’ truly being a PR guy when I pitched him this story on his blog, now did he? Or maybe he didn’t realize I was on the dark side. It’s hard to tell sometimes since I’ve had that 666 tattoo removed… But I digress.
The issues isn’t PR. It is, as I’ve said before certain PR practitioners, specifically the way most PR agencies view their work. Dave is right when he condemns the clueless press release and phone call mills that are a dime a dozen in our industry. He’s also right to point out that there are some diamonds in the rough that is PR. There are some agencies who understand how to build relationships with reporters, editors and bloggers.
So… let’s turn down the hyperbole, shall we Dave…
Speaking of PR agencies fighting the good fight, Joel Richman of PAN chimes in with some thoughts on the matter.

I’ve ranted previously on the current state of relations between PR folks on the one side and bloggers and journalists on the other. So it’s nice to see someone actually doing something concrete about it.
Joel Richman points out Story Angle – a new tool under development, an open source exchange where PR folk can put their best pitches to the test and reporters can sift through them.

Go. Look. Try it out. Take it out for a spin.

Happiness is a client who spends a few seconds of his fifteen minutes of fame giving a shout-out to his PR guy.
