I’m talkin bout Shaft!

As in Sony gives their customers the Shaft.

BoingBoing has the details.

Why do companies act this way? And what makes them think that in the long run they can get away with it?

What do they think will happen when the kids now growing up, who only ever knew TiVo (TV on demand) and music on Mommy and Daddy’s laptops, become consumers?

Cory wraps it up thus…

If we were to have to deal with the music oligarchs directly, the experience would be so toxic that 100 percent of the world would turn into Kazaa downloaders in 30 days.

30 days is too long.

UPDATE: Allan Jenkins and Eric Eggertson follow up and call for a boycott of ALL Sony products.

To which I say, “Gentleman, you can have my Sony ICF-SW7600GR AM/FM Shortwave World Band Receiver with Single Side Band Reception when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands.”

Otherwise, I have no problem not buying their shitty music.

  • And, I can dig it.
  • Your offer is accepted. ;-) Does it come with rechargeable batteries?

FYI, I'm not necesarily asking anyone else to boycott Sony, I'm just saying that when I have any option whatsoever, I'll go with the other guys, whoever they are.
