It’s a crisis alright

It’s just not a PR crisis.

I wonder sometimes when members of the profession refer to something as a PR crisis, do they mean that PR got us into it or that PR can get us out. Or do they think that PR has such importance that anything can be solved by applying a bit of that old APR magic.
The lastest example is Bush Administration tool George C. Deutsch, formerly of NASA and now polishing his resume, no doubt already lining up a job with Michael Brown’s consulting firm.

So if a 24 year old political hack with phony credentials gets a job supervising scientific research reports at a major government facility, calling it a PR crisis is an understatement. It’s like WalMart trying to brush off its crappy labor record by hiring PR hotshots who place a few nice stories in some local papers.

The solution to WalMart’s problems is to pay their employees a living wage and stop destroying local economies.

The solution to the problems at NASA and in with how scientific research is reported throughout the Federal Goverment… well I wish I knew that but I’m willing to be there’s nothing in the PRSA playbook for that problem.
