Insanely great

Allow me to be the latest blogger to quote Guy Kawasaki

(T)he key to evangelism, sales, demoing, and building a community is a great product. Frankly, if you create a great product, you may not be able to stop a community from forming even if you tried. By contrast, it’s hard to build a community around crappy, mundane, and mediocre crap no matter how hard you try.

Self promotion alert: Guy must have read my latest column at AppleMatters.

PR peeps… how many times have you just wanted to scream at your client “no one wants to write about your product BECAUSE IT SUCKS!”?

I know I have.

No matter how much spin, pitch or voodoo you put into a program, if the product or service isn’t there, you can’t sell it. Period.

On the other hand, the knock it out of the park products, the Thomas Mahons of the world, tell and sell themselves. The job of the publicist then is to get out of the way.

  • Oh, the dozens of times.

    "...because it sucks."
    "...because nobody needs it."
"...because it's a cure looking for a headache."
"...because you're navel-gazing and no one else cares."

    I could go on.
