Envy and perspective

Dave’s MacBook Pro will arrive next week. I’m insanely jealous.

Speaking of Dave, we were supposed to be in Durham this weekend visiting Dave and his brood but thanks to some storms, lost power and what not, we’re instead in Scranton, PA visiting my Grandmother.

I was born here, just down the road in Kingston actually. I didn’t grow up here but my Grandfather (who died shortly after I was born) was something of a big man around these parts. So whenever I find myself back here, I feel as if I’m walking in the footsteps of the former Minister of Elm Park Methodist Church, Director of the United Way, and Chaplain to the local forces who fought in the European side of WWII. By the time he was my age, he’d fought his way from Normandy to Paris and then on to liberate the Death Camps in Poland.

So what does this all mean? You’ll forgive me if I wonder if all the silly stuff we worry about in our Web2.0 world can sometimes come off as a bit… silly. And trite.

Yeah, a few beers will do that to me.
