I guess it isn’t just me

StarbucksCup.gifDoc notices what I’ve wondered about – are they playing the music louder at Starbucks lately, or is it just me?

If this keeps up I’m going to have to start working at home. The kids are a lot easier on the ears than the crap they’ve been blasting at my local Starbucks / crack den.

So what is it then, a nice place to relax over a cup of hot joe and burn a few billable hours, or Sam Goodies?

  • I guess the obvious thing they are trying to fulfill by playing the music loudly is to sell their new Starbucks CDs. By playing the music loudly, they are using what they think is a marketing strategy.
I guess that strategy would work in another instance; however, coffee shops were created as a place for people to get away from the loud, obnoxious noises and distractions of the modern-day world. I know that I go to coffee shops to study and many others go to do work, like you said, along with several other focus-oriented tasks.
Maybe Starbucks will read your post and get the hint! They are probably losing customers while trying to sell their CDs. Stick to coffee, Starbucks!
  • You can always inform the barista that it's too loud, and they'd politely turn the volume down for you.

I used to be a Starbucks barista :-)
  • You can come to Florida and work out of my office, er coffee shop.
