Speaking of clients, eSnips has some significant news today. We’re announcing the eSnips Marketplace, ecommerce capabilities for our members to sell their art online right through eSnips. You can read about it on Yael’s blog.
We’re proud to be the first social site to allow it’s users to go one step further beyond just sharing and socializing. The most interesting thing about selling on eSnips is the exposure to the personal facets of the seller and often the buyer. It reminds us of the real life ‘Virtual fair’ or ‘Open studio’ where you don’t just see the item for sale in a gallery, you rather get to know a lot about the person you buy from, his personal interests and social scene.

ESnips is an unassuming site that seems to just plain work for people. The company is currently hosting an “open studio week” highlighting selected artists who share their work on the site. I guess it’s all just further proof that the Web 2.0 world of user generated content, data portability and social networking doesn’t have to be flashy to get peoples’ attention.
This seems like the kind of thing that would have flopped a decade ago, but that could really work now that the idea of sharing content online has become much more mainstream. Has it become mainstream enough to support business models like the one at eSnips? We shall see.
