BlogOrlando

Getting back to my session at BlogOrlando . . .
A number of things come to mind:

  • Is the PR person a gatekeeper or connector?
  • If we are accepting the role being that of the connector, what value does the PR person bring to the table?
  • Again, assuming the connector role, what is the proper way to go about connecting? Is a one-size-fits-all approach to social and mainstream media appropriate?

My answers are, of course, no, yes and maybe. Or connector, understanding and indpendence and with an understanding that each individual in the influence chain is different and gets a different approach.

So in that case, you might take one approach to a journalist, another with a blogger and an even different approach with aanother journalist. Every target is different and to just ‘pitch’ without thinking doesn’t help the client or the media (bloggers or otherwise).

Other issues that have come up, in the comments to my earlier post and elsewhere:

  • Should PR people blog?
  • What are the merits of internal and external blogs?
  • What do we do about ‘bad news’ on a blog?

That’s enough to get us started. Anyone who’s participating on Friday, feel free to jump in.
