It’s a place

To the folks still grappling with the notion of marketing on the Web, I say think of the old New England village green.

Sure it’s filled with cattle and swine and you ran the risk of stepping in animal poo. And yes it’s messy and the Congregationalists don’t want to mix with the Presbyterian and the rich folk don’t want to mingle with the poor folk.

But on any given Sunday it was filled with wonders, merchants in town to sell wares from far away places; farmers selling fresh produce. And ideas like democracy and equality came out of the interplay of commerce and culture rubbing up against each other.

Now the Internet is just like that but without the smells.
