Why do we blog?

Brian’s got a good idea…

Because you have some kind of skin in the game. Duh. You carry a torch for the topic. Your friends, lovers, little brother asked you to write about it. You want to make the world a better place. You’re getting paid to do so. You want that little red-haired girl to finally pay attention to you. You’re afraid of dying and being wiped from earthly memory. You have a score to settle. You are bored. You want to advance professionally. You want to make new friends. You want to feel good about yourself.

Keep that in mind the next time the subject of ‘blogger relations’ comes up at a staff meeting.

  • My favorite part of the book Citizen Marketers? It gave me a name for all of this: "productive leisure."

My blog does not monetize, it does not reinforce an agency's rep, it does not show how good I am (as a solo practictioner). What's my end game? Productive Leisure.
  • Woohoo - a Peanuts reference.

But, I'm tired of yelling this to the stars, and not being heard. It's tiring.
