Chris Brogan complains about Facebook showing him NSFW ads. Clearly their targeting mechanism is askew. Like in my case.
Well, at least they have the 30+ part right.
Albany-based Sawchuck Brown Associates has reprinted my article “On Bloggers and Online Outlets” from the November issue of Tactics. I tried to offer some words of wisdom to practitioners, to wit,
It’s easy to treat social media as something new. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the technology and terminology, but social media has really been with us since the earliest days of human civilization. We’ve always been social creatures, and today’s technologies amplify that fact.
Hopefully it sinks in. It’s always nice to know someone is at least reading.
It’s very simple. Human beings have been reading and writing on paper (or something akin) for thousands of years. It’s burned into our genetic code. We like the tactile sensation of turning a page, the smell of newsprint and the heft of a good novel.
That’s why selling books over the Interwebs is a good idea. Delivering books through the tubes, on the other hand, won’t catch on - IMHO.
Of course I’ve been proven wrong before.
