Always Learning

PHP
Image via Wikipedia

As the President said in his Not-The-State-Of-The-Union last week, each of us should resolve to learn something new. So I’ve been brushing up on my (barely-existent) coding skills by playing with SimplePie. SimplePie is described as

a very fast and easy-to-use class, written in PHP, that puts the ’simple’ back into ‘really simple syndication‘.

Basically you can toss any feed or feeds into it and get out a nice, managable thing suitable for framing or putting into any web site.

You can see my early tinkerings here.

Sita Sings The Blues

If you watch one brilliantly animated take on the Ramayana this year, make sure it’s Sita Sings the Blues.

Nina Paley, the genius behind all this and, according to her blog, America’s Best-Loved Unknown Cartoonist has been fighting an ongoing battle over the copyrights from songs from the 1920s she uses in the movie. You can get all the dirt on her blog.

Owing to an exemption in the US Copyright laws, New York’s public TV station Channel Thirteen is streaming the whole durn movie this week only here.

Go. Watch. Now.

Lost In The Stars

Dr. {{w|Neil deGrasse Tyson}} at the November ...

I am an astronomy geek. So when I saw one of my favorite non-astronomy blogs posts a link to several videos from ubber-astronomy geek Neil deGrasse Tyson, I had to offer up a link.

I’m presently working my way through Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, a must read for anyone interested in how we know what we know and what we still don’t know.

Happy Birthday cont…

Speaking of significant dates, it was sometime earlier this month that this blog celebrated its fourth anniversary.

I had already been blogging for a couple of years at another location but the convergance of media, marketing, public relations and social media was too tempting a target so I abadoned my career as a daddy blogger and (if I’m not mistaken) I became PR blogger number 140-something.

Back then you could count all the significant marketing bloggers on your hands and toes. Now … well you know.

Here’s one of my early posts, where I think I really started hitting my stride.

I Won’t Be At SXSW This Year

No Men's Land

Sorry folks, I won’t be making the trek to Austin for South by Southwest next month.

While you are all twittering, or whatever it is that you kids do, Sue and the kids and me will be in Boston, doing the family get away thing. So enjoy and try not to create any controversies or start any pissing matches without me.
