No Photography Allowed

I took the Twin Princess Number One to Dia:Beacon this afternoon.

Photography is strictly prohibited, which kind of sucks since this is such an amazing space. There’s a ton of huge, monumental works lit by natural light. And of course you are right smack in the middle of the Hudson Highlands, some of the most beautiful real estate this side of the South of France.

So I managed to sneak this one off with my iPhone.

At The Aldrich

Aldrich Museum

Thomas Hawk complains (rightfully so) that museums in San Francisco have issues with photographers.

Here in the North East I’ve never had such a problem in any museum I’ve visited. And in some of the smaller museums, like the Aldrich in Ridgefield, CT, they’ll even go out of their way to point out what’s interesting, new and exciting. And they are kid-friendly, to a fault.

Must be a cultural thing.

Update: 10 Zen Monkeys has a decent rundown of the Thomas Hawk / SF MOMA incident and aftermath. It’s amazing to me (well, maybe not) how quickly they throw in the ‘pervert’ accusation. That’s the last bastion of someone who has nothing else to accuse someone with.

And the rest of the sheeple just go blindly on ….

I’m starting to reach the proverbial tipping point where I’m being invited to events with the unspoken understanding that I’ll take pictures and put them up on Flickr.

Actually, not always unspoken.

Which is nice. It’s nice to be recognized for contributing to the community.

Of course if you have an event coming up in the NorthEast U.S., I take pictures for conference admission.
